About Me

I am a researcher and engineer with a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics and Energy from the University of Tsukuba, Japan. Since November 2024, I have been serving as a Specially Appointed Researcher at the Center for Environmental Remote Sensing (CEReS), Chiba University, Japan. My research spans numerical climate and atmospheric modeling, wind energy resource assessment, data assimilation, and paleoclimate reconstruction, with particular attention to regional and continental scales in South Asia. I have worked extensively with observational, reanalysis, and high-resolution model datasets, and have applied both offline and online ensemble Kalman filter methods to problems in modern climate analysis and paleoclimate reconstruction. In addition to research, I have teaching and supervision experience at the undergraduate level in mechanical and energy engineering, having served at Near East University and the University of Kyrenia, Cyprus. I contribute to the peer review process for several international journals and serve on an editorial board.

Wind Energy Assessment

Quantifying and classifying wind power resources across South Asia using surface observations, reanalysis products, and high-resolution regional climate model output, with attention to terrain effects and inter-dataset uncertainty.

🌏

Climate Variability and Dynamics

Examining seasonal and interannual variability in the atmospheric circulation and surface climate over the Indian subcontinent, including the South Asian monsoon system and its interaction with large-scale teleconnections.

🔄

Data Assimilation

Development and application of offline and online Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) methods for reconstructing climate states from proxy records and instrumental observations, spanning both the modern instrumental period and the Common Era.

⬇️

Dynamical Downscaling

Regional climate modeling within the CORDEX framework to increase spatial resolution of global model output over South Asia, with added-value analysis and terrain-based wind speed adjustments applied in complex orographic settings.

🌡️

Climate and Energy Interactions

Investigating the sensitivity of wind and solar energy resources to historical climate variability and projected future climate change over Pakistan and the broader South Asian region, with applications to energy planning.

🧊

Paleoclimate Reconstruction

Reconstructing past climate variability over the Common Era and last millennium by combining climate proxy records (tree rings, ice cores, and corals) with general circulation model simulations through data assimilation.

🤖

Machine Learning in Climate Science

Application of machine learning methods, informed by physical understanding, to atmospheric and environmental modeling tasks including pattern recognition, bias correction, and the emulation of computationally expensive model components.

📡

Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis

Use of satellite-derived datasets and geospatial analysis tools to support climate-relevant wind energy assessment and long-term environmental monitoring at regional scales.

My research addresses problems in atmospheric science, climate modeling, paleoclimate reconstruction, and renewable energy assessment, with emphasis on uncertainty quantification and physical consistency.

Project 1: Last-Millennium Climate Reconstruction

Reconstructing surface climate fields over the last millennium by combining high-resolution ensemble simulations (d4PDF) with climate proxy records using an offline ensemble Kalman filter, to improve the spatial coherence and physical consistency of historical climate estimates.

Project 2: Benchmarking of Paleoclimate Reanalysis Products

Systematic evaluation of multiple paleoclimate reanalysis datasets over 1880 to 2000 against five major instrumental temperature and precipitation records. The work produced a unified benchmarking framework that identifies consistent strengths and limitations across existing products.

Project 3: Common Era Climate Reanalysis (0 to 2005 CE)

Generating a climate reanalysis spanning the full Common Era by assimilating the Last Millennium Reanalysis (LMR) proxy database into a transient CESM1-LME prior using an offline ensemble Kalman filter. The central objective is to determine whether a transient, forcing-consistent prior improves the spatial coherence and physical consistency of reconstructed temperature and hydroclimate fields relative to earlier stationary-prior approaches.
